Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? [1 Corinthians 15:12]
Apparently some folks in the Corinthian church doubted the resurrection of the dead, thus Paul had to address that in his letter to the church. He made his case 2 ways.
First, Paul told them that there were witnesses, including Paul himself, who saw the risen Christ.
Then, Paul told them the implications if Christ is not risen:
- the faith and preaching are useless
- believers cannot be sure that their sins are atoned
- believers cannot hope to go heaven when they die
His point was clear: because Christ is risen, therefore the dead will rise again.
I think we should also note the implications if Christ is not risen because, in short, if Christ is not risen, there is no gospel (“good news”) to share.
