Book review: Enchanting Penang (by David Bowden)

Title: Enchanting Penang
Author: David Bowden
Publisher: John Beaufoy Publishing Limited

In this book, David Bowden gives a introduction to Penang, Malaysia. He writes about the history, reglions, climate, food, forests, and main tourist attractions eg the murals. The main focus of the book is George Town but David Bowden also covers places beyond George Town such as Butterworth and Air Itam.

The text is concise and accompanied by beautiful pictures that make reading a pleasure. Most of the pictures in the book were taken by David Bowden himself. I find the pictures of the beaches and food particularly well taken.

This book is probably not meant to be an in-depth travel guide but it serves well as an introduction to Penang. I was attracted by the pictures in the book. Readers who are keen to visit Penang would do well to do more research such as how to get around the city.

I have visited Penang a few times but mainly within George Town. This book got me interested in the west coast and Butterworth.

PS: I borrowed this book from the library. I have not received any form of compensation for writing this post. I have no material connection to the publisher or author mentioned in the post.
