Book review: Starting your career as a professional blogger (by Jacqueline Bodnar)

Title: Starting your career as a professional blogger

Author: Jacqueline Bodnar

Publisher: Allworth Press

In this book, Jacqueline Bodnar shows the reader how to become a professional blogger, that is, making a living by blogging. In a way this book is a guidebook to professional blogging as Jacqueline Bodnar shows the steps in how to start a blog, from choosing a blog name to topics to cover to gaining traffic to generating revenue. She shares many tips on how to gain revenue, eg selling ad space, writing product reviews and conducting lessons, but she also points out there is no sure-win formula.

I like the words and positive tone used in this book. Jacqueline Bodnar is very encouraging, the slogan of this book is like “you can do it, it can be done”. But she also lists out some factors one should note, eg an extended period of time without income, before plunging into blogging full-time. Even if one is blogging for fun, the tips she shares related to writing a SEO post and building audience are very useful for developing a blog.

“Enjoying being a professional blogger is the most important measure of success you have.”
