Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? [Matthew 6:26]
A few days ago when I was having lunch in the cafeteria, I saw some birds in the other end of the cafeteria. Then I saw one of the birds eating or pecking at what might be crumbs on the floor. The above verse came to my mind (a similar verse is recorded in Luke 12:24). In short, the verse reminds us to trust in God’s provision for food. But trusting in God’s provision does not mean we sit and do nothing. Looking at the bird, I believe the bird needs to fly out of its nest first before it can find the food God has provided for it as it is unlikely that food would drop from the sky into its nest. Even in the days when the people had manna, they had to get out of their tents to gather the manna as the manna would not appear in their bowls or plates on its own.
