Tom is 12 years old. His favorite pastime is computer games, and he can spend long hours in front of the computer. He received his report card last month. His grades were terrible. He barely passed the exams. His parents were very disappointed with his grades. Tom felt guilty that he did not heed their advice to spend more time on his books.
A few days ago, while having lunch with his dad, a stranger walked over to their table. That stranger was his dad’s colleague. Tom’s dad introduced Tom to that colleague as his “son and source of pride”. Tom was surprised that his dad would introduce him in such a manner. His dad explained, “Tom, I am proud of you because you are my son. Even though you did not meet my expectations in your recent exams, you are still my son. My love for you is not based on your grades.“
