Book review: Facing your giants

Title: Facing your giants

Author: Max Lucado

Publisher: Thomas nelson

The book opens with a narration of David fighting Goliath then Max Lucado explains why David dared to fight Goliath while the other soldiers dared not, and his victory. He then traces David’s life until his death and shows the reader that Goliath was not the only giant David faced. Each chapter talks about a giant David faced and what David did. Max Lucado shows how the same giants are also pestering us today. For example, Saul was another giant David faced. He was the king and David’s father-in-law. When Saul sought David’s life, David had Jonathan to help him. Saul represents the raging boss we face in the office who makes life difficult for us; then Max Lucado points out David had Jonathan and we have Jesus who did much more for us than Jonathan did for David.

Chapter 19 is the application chapter where Max Lucado shows the reader how to fight those giants in our life. The below quotation taken from the book sort of summarizes the whole book.

Focus on giants – you stumble. Focus on God – your giants tumble.
