What exactly am I supposed to be doing as a member of this local church?
This is the question the author seeks to answer. In this book, the author explained what it means to be a healthy church member. Note the keyword is “healthy“. The book presented 10 ways for healthy growth eg expositional listening to the Word, saturated in the Gospel, and supporting the church leadership. In each chapter, the author explained how each way worked and how they are backed by Scripture.
The chapter that struck me most is the chapter on prayer. All Christians know the importance of prayer, yet how many apply that in their lives? Often, we make prayer the last resort when it should be the starting point. In that chapter, the author explained why we should pray, how the Holy Spirit aids us in prayer, and who to pray for.
I find this book insightful. If, like me, one finds himself lacking in certain areas after reading this book, do not be discouraged. Identify the areas for growth, and ask God to help in the areas. The book is not intended to be taken as an absolute rulebook, else it would be legalism.
