Book review: I kissed dating goodbye (by Joshua Harris)

Title: I kissed dating goodbye

Author: Joshua Harris

Publisher: Multnomah Publishers, Inc

In a way, this book is about dating, yet also not about dating. It does not offer dating tips such as how to impress the other party on the first date, a list of dos and don’ts during a date, and so on. Instead Joshua Harris explained certain aspects that are not pleasing to God regarding dating, for example pursuing physical intimacy without knowing the person well. He strongly believed that one should not date until one is ready for commitment, and one should pursue godly relationships.

In one of the chapters, Joshua Harris offered suggestions on what to look out for in a life partner. He reminded the reader that marriage is for life, thus one should look beyond the external appearance as physical beauty and youth would eventually fade. He elaborated on the importance of character and attitude in a life partner, and what kind of character and attitude to look out for. It also meant that one should work on those aspects while waiting for that special person.

The author, Joshua Harris, was about 21 when he wrote this book. I am impressed that a man at that age displayed such maturity in thinking, and desire to please God. I agree with his stand on building godly relationships. The suggestions and principles he offered are also good, but I would urge those reading this book not to turn them into some form of legalism.

PS: I got this book from a book swap event. I have not received any form of compensation for writing this post. I have no material connection to the publisher or author mentioned in the post.
