The LORD’s loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him. It is good that he waits silently For the salvation of the LORD. [Lamentations 3:22-26]
Jeremiah wrote Lamentations after the kingdom of Judah lost the battle against Babylon. The king was captured, and the city was in ruins. Many people were taken captive to Babylon, and only the poorest remained in the city. The city was in a sorry state. Yet in his sorrow, Jeremiah continued to put his hope in the LORD as shown in the verses above. He has showed us that in difficult times, the grace of God would continue to shine in the hearts of those who put their faith and hope in Him.
