Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? There is not one. [Job 14:4]
Chapter 14 of the book of Job records for us Job’s response to his friends’ chiding, and the above verse caught my attention. If I understand it correctly, with the context in mind, Job was saying that it was impossible for a human being, who is a sinner, to give birth to another human being who is not a sinner. All human beings are born as sinners, inheriting the sins from Adam and Eve. I am surprised that this concept of original sin is found here, proving that this concept was already in existence since ancient times. This concept still holds today, but the difference between now and then is we have Jesus who washes away our sins, enabling us to stand before the holy God.
